Yash’s much-delayed Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown-Ups has picked up strong momentum just days before its August 26 release, with worldwide advance bookings crossing ₹35 crore about four days ahead of the film hitting screens, according to trade trackers cited by Filmibeat. That number has already made Toxic the highest-grossing Kannada film of the year in advance sales alone, ahead of KD – The Devil’s final total of ₹33.01 crore.
The bigger number attached to Toxic, though, is its budget. According to industry estimates cited by trade sources, the film has been mounted on a scale of approximately ₹800–1,000 crore — a figure that, if accurate, would make it several times more expensive than Yash’s previous release, KGF: Chapter 2. That 2022 film was made on a reported budget of around ₹100 crore (roughly $13 million) and went on to gross close to ₹1,200–1,250 crore worldwide, making it the second-highest-grossing film in Indian box office history at the time.
The money math
If Toxic’s reported budget of up to ₹1,000 crore holds up, the film would need collections on a scale rarely seen in Indian cinema just to recover its cost, before any studio profit margin is counted. For comparison, KGF: Chapter 2 turned a roughly ₹100 crore outlay into over ₹1,200 crore worldwide — a return of more than 10 times its budget. Toxic, at eight to ten times that budget, would need proportionally bigger numbers simply to match the kind of returns KGF 2 delivered.
The film’s road to release hasn’t been simple either. Toxic was originally planned for an April 2025 launch, then pushed to March 2026, and postponed again from a June 2026 date over instability in Middle East markets, which are a significant overseas contributor for Yash’s films. The August 26 date, timed around Onam, Varamahalakshmi, Eid and Raksha Bandhan, gives the film an extended festive window to work with.
Early signs suggest audiences haven’t lost interest despite the delays. Advance bookings from Karnataka alone have crossed ₹8 crore including blocked seats, per Dynamite News, and national chain ticket sales have been climbing steadily in the days before release. Directed by Geetu Mohandas and produced by Yash’s own Monster Mind Creations along with KVN Productions, the film marks Yash’s first release since KGF: Chapter 2 in 2022 — a four-year gap that puts extra pressure on Toxic to justify both the wait and its reported cost.
Whether Toxic can turn its reported near-₹1,000 crore budget into a KGF 2-style blockbuster return will start becoming clear from its opening day collections on August 26.
